Warlock Lair 16: Lamassu’s Secrets

$

0

When the forces of the Mharoti Empire swept into Ishadia centuries ago, they smashed the Great Dam at Khazephon, unleashing a deluge onto the city and the armies of the Phoenix Throne. In the years since, Ishadia has rebuilt and stands firm against draconic expansion. But in the souks and coffee houses talk often turns to prophecies of a returning king.

The breached Great Dam still towers above the crowded streets of Khazephon. The abandoned palaces and gardens of the city’s former elite sit atop the dam, watched over by a pride of lamassu who protect these residences from treasure-seekers. And somewhere in them lies the key that might restore Ishadia’s hopes.

This short, exploration-driven adventure reveals the secrets of a ruined palace, and is designed for four 7th level characters. This 5th Edition adventure is written by Richard Green, and it features cartography by Dyson Logos and art by Karl Waller.

Warlock Lair 17: Mad Maze of the Moon Kingdom

Roshgazi was once the capital of the Moon Kingdom of Tes-Qamar, and the pinnacle of minotaur culture in the West. Following its destruction at the hands of the Mharoti Empire 300 years ago, Roshgazi lies in ruins and many minotaurs who remain in the city have descended into bloody savagery.

The city’s most famous landmark is the First Labyrinth—a sprawling maze infused with powerful magic. Built as a place of trials and executions in the days of the Moon Kingdom, the First Labyrinth has fallen into decay. Its magic still functions, constantly changing the layout above and below ground. The changes are erratic, following the whims of the Heart of Roshgazi, a damaged artifact with two distinct personalities. Sometimes, the benevolent Poet is dominant, bringing explorers into the labyrinth through its maze gates to help repair Roshgazi. At other times, the deranged Broken sends bloodthirsty and degenerate minotaurs to hunt down intruders.

This is one of the less peaceful times.

This short, exploration-driven adventure reveals the secrets of a ruined palace, and is designed for four 4th or 5th-level characters. This 5th Edition adventure is designed by Richard Green, and it features cartography by Dyson Logos and art by Karl Waller.

The ship christened The Queen’s Desire is the notorious trickster Marie de Lech’s most recent acquisition, won as a gambling prize like many of her expensive possessions. Baron Tarvel Ilvayne found it galling enough to lose his ship to a woman, but her beating him wagering on a horse race further infuriated him. The losing horse’s breeder had assured the baron of the race’s outcome. The baron is convinced that de Lech cheated, somehow, but without any proof, his attempts to reclaim The Queen’s Desire have met with frustration.

Since the Baron has no direct influence in Messori Harbor, where the ship is docked, he employs alternative means to recover his ship and its cargo. Enter our heroes…

This short, exploration-and-stealth-heavy adventure requires smarts and steel in equal measure, and it is designed for four 4th-level characters. This 5th Edition adventure is designed by Mike Welham, and it features cartography by Dyson Logos and art by Karl Waller.

When Brechen Yura received a package from a former adventuring companion who had recently died, he thought nothing of it. Brechen had retired from the adventuring life and enjoyed a simple life as a fishmonger in Capleon. The package arriving two weeks after the service was a mild surprise, and it contained a rusted compass and a map to a small island south of Raguza. The map, showing two buildings south of a group of standing stones, stirred memories of an ancient life he never lived. He dreamed of walking among crab-like people—dreams that provided a sensation of being home. Curiosity about the dreams became obsession, and Brechen knew visiting the unnamed island was the only way he could satisfy his preoccupation.

Unknown to Brechen, agents of the aboleth Qionnarrell ensured the map found its way to him. The human is unaware of his crustacean ancestry—and he does not realize he is the key to awakening one of the aboleth’s servitors on the island. If he brings along a few people, all the better, because the servitor will undoubtedly hunger when it awakens, and unwitting sacrifices make the best fodder….

This short shoreline adventure for the 5th Edition of the world’s first RPG is meant for four 3rd-level characters. Designed by Mike Welham, it features cartography by Dyson Logos and art by M. Wayne Miller.

Magic Measured in Moments—and Eternities!

The control and manipulation of time is an esoteric and mysterious branch of magic. Spellcasters who seek to alter time have the
potential to perform incredible deeds. That potential is tempered by the great danger of intervening with time, which resists mortal interference.

Deep Magic: Time Magic brings the secrets of temporal magic into your 5e campaign, featuring:

  • A divine option for the TIme Domain and a Timekeeper arcane tradition for wizards
  • A Lost Traveller Background for those who wander in time
  • 12 new spells, including accelerate, chronal lance, time loop, and wall of time

Mastery of time itself brings immense power to the caster, but runs enormous risks–not least attracting the attention of archmages and the gods themselves for your meddling! Seize this power boldly, and with respect for the dangers it contains!

Warlock Lair 20: Monkey Business

Ik-jar-salim was the monkey familiar to the great and powerful efreeti Abjar Hakoor-du-Balom-Asktee-Nas-Jii, known more usually as Lord Ash, faithful servant of Baal and Grand Sultan Ixingaltrix. Alas, powerful masters make powerful enemies and Lord Ash’s mighty spark was quenched, tricked into an iron flask that only—through a quirk of mad magic—could be opened by his familiar. The familiar was, at the same time (and to ensure a good job done) destroyed, quite messily, before its master. The flask was sunk, along with its master’s vessel—the fearsomely reputed pleasure barge Furnace—into the Boiling River within the City of Brass and forgotten.

Yet Lord Ash remained mercilessly awake, his mad prayers to Baal unanswered, while his ship’s iron cladding was eaten away over centuries. As the vessel decayed in the terrible river, its skeleton repelled the fire and slowly, so slowly, cast off the shackles of iron and mortal metals that weighed it to the bottom of the river. When its skeleton was stripped bare, the barge rose like oil on a mortal river.

Three nasty brothers are good at digging up old legends and stories. When one of them learnt that beneath the Boiling River lurked a powerful imprisoned efreeti rumored to grant wishes, they grew obsessed with finding it. And the rest is the subject of our tale, effendi!

This double-length City of Brass adventure for the 5th Edition of the world’s first RPG is meant for four 1st-level characters. Designed by Richard Pett, it features original cartography by Dyson Logos and art by M. Wayne Miller.

For countless years, the Tomb of Xulthas-Ka has eluded even the most intrepid of explorers. The only things known about the sorcerer king interred within the tomb are that he owed allegiance to unholy powers and that he possesed an unparalleled collection of arcane secrets. The name Xulthas-Ka is a legend among scholars and graverobbers alike, who whisper tales of items of unfathomable power that rest in a black sarcophagus in the lightless depths of his profane vault. The tomb is recognized by the massive ebony slab that marks its entrance. This solitary doorway is cut into the side of a sheer cliff face and has remained sealed since the tomb was constructed.

But the vault has finally been breached. An industrious and foolhardy adventuring trio thwarted the barriers protecting the crypt with a
large alchemical explosion in the side of the cliff face, opening one of the tomb’s internal passages. Their success, however, was short-lived. One-by-one they perished at the hands of Xulthas-Ka’s immortal protectors and their own unsound decisions…. Can others do better?

This tomb-crawling adventure for the 5th Edition of the world’s first RPG is meant for four 6th-level characters. Designed by Chris Lockey, it features cartography by Dyson Logos and art by M. Wayne Miller.

Graydion Montempi abuses his authority as city watch captain in Trombei to enrich himself and maintain a local empire, with the help of inhuman friends in the nearby swamp. His tyranny initially amounted to little more than overlooking petty crimes for a small sum, allowing the criminals to avoid imprisonment. He has steadily built a small cadre of loyal members of the watch who help him gradually enforce more draconian regulations. They also frame his enemies for wrongdoings—enough to derail his enemies from interfering with his plans. He just needs a few suckers to send into the swamps each month and his plans move forward nicely.

The PCs recently learned about a relative or friend who has disappeared, and their investigations
take them to the watch captain. The fine captain says he has suspicions of something foul happening in the swamp—he just needs a few capable mercenaries to perform a job the watch cannot do, so far from town…

This wilderness adventure for the 5th Edition of the world’s first RPG is meant for four 5th-level characters, and can be played in conjunction with “Leeward Shore” or on its own. Designed by Mike Welham, it features cartography by Dyson Logos and art by Karl Waller.

Warlock Lair 23: Wrath of the Bramble King

$
0
0

The Bramble King is a reclusive creature who has lived deep in the Margreve for a century and a half. His distance from most settlements keeps civilization away from him, and terrible bedtime stories about the Bramble King prevent most reasonable people from looking for him. As with all such stories, the warnings about the Bramble King hold a kernel of truth. When a hunter encroaches in his territory, he threatens the trespasser with writhing, thorny vines and plants pruned in the likenesses of predatory animals. All the thorns belonging to the Bramble King’s plants are tipped with a poison that creates an itchy rash. Those who persisted in their intrusion on his peace returned with horrifying red patches on their skin.

In actuality, the Bramble King is a gentle soul, who wishes only to be left with his creations. However, he often takes in lost souls and tends to their injuries before sending them back to civilization with a bramble animal escort. Perhaps ancient memories guide him to help the lost. This all changed when the Weft of Shadows incited nearby children of the briar to wrest the Bramble King’s crown from his head while he slept. They poisoned the vines and captured or killed many of the Bramble King’s creations.

When the Bramble King awoke, he saw the devastation wreaked by the children of the briar and realized the Bramble Crown had been stolen. Despite the loss of his crown, he still wielded power over his surviving creations, and he sent them to the village of Cambervale….

This wilderness adventure for the 5th Edition of the world’s first RPG is meant for four 2nd-level characters, and can be played in conjunction with the followup “Mushroom Queen’s Pride” or on its own. Designed by Mike Welham, it features cartography by Dyson Logos and art by M Wayne Miller.
