Deep Magic: Winter Magic PDF (5th Edition)

Winter Has Come!

The seasons have power, and that of winter is respected by all living beings—indeed, most of their lives the rest of the year are devoted to preparing to meet it. Winter is blinding snow, and ice driven by howling winds; it is branches stripped bare and hung with icicles, landscapes buried in drifts of white. You have learned to command its power, and unleash on your foes.

The 20 pages of Deep Magic: Winter Magic bring the secrets of winter magic into your 5e campaign, featuring:

  • A new Blizzard’s Heart primal path for barbarians
  • The Frozen One, a warlock patron who is the embodiment of winter
  • Fimbulwinter’s Advent, a new rune ritual
  • 20 new spells, including clash of glaciers, ice fortress, steal warmth, and more!

Those who oppose you would do well to plan long and carefully. Like winter, you are a force to be reckoned with: a combination of elemental power, dangerous beauty, and the relentless nature of the storm.

Warlock Lair 37: Birds of a Feather (Fowl Play, Part 3)

When Yvette Bell left the convent of the Sisterhood of the Blessed Vine with Vincenze, her grown owlbear cub, she intended to travel to Maillon and set out from there to parts undetermined. She discovered travel is arduous, though, and soon craved a return to the comforts of noble life. When she arrived at a crossroads, she turned away from Maillon and went west through the Fellmire to the small town of the same name where she discovered her distant cousin Imboldt Yhandoulx had a rich estate…

The PCs can follow Yvette’s trail through the Fellmire, a magic-blasted swampland. When they arrive in the small town, they learn Count Imboldt Yhandoulx departed for Bourgund, leaving his recently arrived cousin (who sounds suspiciously familiar to the PCs if they played through the earlier installments of the “Fowl Play” trilogy), in charge of his estate. Citizens living in homes near the Count’s estate have detected horrible sounds and odors escaping it. Entering the Yhandoulx estate, it doesn’t take the PCs long to discover Yvette is up to her old tricks, using specimens gathered from the despoiled fen to create new, bizarre animals which will undoubtedly threaten the populace.

This adventure for the 5th Edition of the world’s first RPG is meant for four 3rd-level characters. Designed by Kelly Pawlik, it features cartography by Dyson Logos and art by Phil Stone.

Warlock Lair 38: Reclamation of Hallowhall

Hallowhall sits alone, shunned by locals, and its great curse remains in place. Those who linger too long within its walls become trapped, seeing the old castle as home, and become hostile to those who intrude upon its confines. These accursed denizens protect it against any outsiders, as do the traps and magical hazards its paranoid occupants developed to defend themselves.

Queen Dorytta worries about the might of the forces that sit just beyond the borders of her kingdom. Recently she has been bolstering the country’s defenses and strengthening its borders. To this end, the Queen has charged the PCs to travel to the Vurkove Hills, where an abandoned castle has sat upon the southern border, unoccupied, for decades. The PCs are tasked to enter Hallowhall, clear it of any dangers, and report back. The Queen offers the PCs the sum of 2,000 gp upon their return.

This adventure for the 5th Edition of the world’s first RPG is meant for five 9th-level characters. Designed by Jeff Lee, it features cartography by Dyson Logos and art by Phil Stone.

At its height, the traveling Aerial Circus showcased flying monsters and people enhanced by magic performing death-defying stunts in flight. The performers based themselves in a remote bluff in the Red Wastes, which granted them safety from the gnolls patrolling the desert. After an unfortunate incident involving their owl-headed roc killing an audience member, the performers disbanded and vacated their base.

Shortly thereafter, the shadow fey enchantress Delaria received visions about the compound and an urge to travel there. At first, she thought the compulsion came from the Queen of Night and Magic, but her patron, Alquam, Demon Lord of the Night, soon revealed its identity to her. Intrigued by this new wellspring of power, Delaria believed the demon lord would hasten her rise. And thus a dark chain of events was set in motion…

This adventure for the 5th Edition of the world’s first RPG is meant for four 8th-level characters. Designed by Mike Welham, it features 4 new monsters plus cartography by Dyson Logos and art by William McAusland and Phil Stone.

Warlock Lair 40: The Adoration of Quolo

The wizard Quolo has no desire to rule the world, create an army of undead, or summon aberrations from ancient tomes. Instead, he merely wishes to be loved and adored.

The people of the small island village near his tower are under the effects of a many-layered spell which causes them to believe that Quolo is the hero of their village, a powerful and benevolent mage who has saved them from many threats over the years. The only exception to the adoring villagers is the trollkin priest Sayra, who casts remove curse on herself daily to remember the truth as she seeks a cure for her friends.

As the PCs explore the village of Dawnshore, they meet the locals, who compliment the local wizard just a little too effusively to be believable. Moreover, when kelp monsters attack the village, it quickly becomes apparent to seasoned adventurers that Quolo is more of a talker than a fighter. Once the secret is out, the PCs discover that Quolo found an ancient and powerful source of magic beneath the village. What happens next is up to the players!

This adventure for the 5th Edition of the world’s first RPG is meant for four to five 5th-level characters. Designed by Hannah Rose and Joey Haeck, it features a new monster, a new magic item, plus cartography by Dyson Logos and art by Phil Stone.

The PCs are in the Lower District of Zobeck at night when they stumble upon what seems to be a group of thugs attacking a man and his young son. During the fight they realize their opponents are deadly killers, who are much more skilled than common, dockside thugs. The man is killed in the fight, though the boy, Marko, survives.

The man protecting him was not his father, but his bodyguard, Conte. With his bodyguard dead, young Marko is vulnerable to further attacks. He knows Conte was trying to get him somewhere safe, but he doesn’t know the details. A bloodied letter on Conte’s body provides some clues. Strangely, it appears Conte was trying to get Marko to a local fence, one who buys goods from common pickpockets and second-story thieves.

The Ultimate Resource for Gamers, Game Masters, and Designers

The first edition of the COMPLETE KOBOLD GUIDE TO GAME DESIGN laid out concepts, techniques and advice for designing roleplaying games and enhancing adventures. This second edition brings together essays from the original volume, many updated to reflect the changing game design landscape, as well as new essays by veteran designers Jeff Grubb (Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Guild Wars), Kelly Pawlik (Midgard Sagas, Empire of the Ghouls), Amber Scott (Dungeons & Dragons, Eberron) and Ray Vallese (The Kobold Guide to Magic).

Between these covers, you’ll find practical, thought-provoking essays on worldbuilding, creating magic systems, conflict, and compelling stories, what to expect when you work as a design professional, and much more. Conceptual chapters examine what game design is and how good design can create the best games. Concrete examples provide models to help you create well-rounded designs and exciting adventures.

Things have gone awry, though, as the PCs are summoned to the Bjornrike embassy by the Grand Baron Dymytros Howlik vann Rottsten. He tasks them to search the countryside around the Arbonesse Heights Vineyard for the ambassador’s missing cub.

While searching the countryside, the PCs come across an injured foxin, a volcanic vent, and disappearing workers at a nearby vineyard. Something is clearly amiss in the Grand Duchy, but what exactly could explain all these seemingly unrelated events?

This adventure for the 5th Edition of the world’s first RPG is meant for four 4th-level characters. Designed by Benjamin L. Eastman, it features a new monster and a new magic item, with cartography by Dyson Logos and art by Phil Stone.
